LATEST HAPPENINGS IN AI

AI Can’t Replace You at Work. Here’s Why!

Generative AI won’t put people out of work as drastically as predicted. It’s likely to create more jobs because it requires human oversight to produce usable results.

Modern work involves complexities beyond AI capabilities, such as summarizing text and generating output based on prompts.

While generative AI has advanced, it still lacks autonomy and predictability, making it less reliable.

Large language models (LLMs) can process vast data but struggle with accurate parsing and are prone to misleading information.

Companies are risk-averse and won’t rush to replace humans with technology that has bugs to work out.

AI’s Imperfections

  • Generative AI excels at mundane communication tasks like interacting with customers online, producing reports, and writing marketing copy.

  • However, many of these tasks have already been automated (e.g., chatbots handling customer complaints).

  • Most office interactions involve informal communication, and valuable organizational knowledge remains tacit.

AI Avatar Coming to WhatsApp

Meta is adding another AI element to WhatsApp through a new image creation tool.

The tool allows users to place themselves within fantastical scenes for their profile pictures.

To activate the process, users upload a selfie (or a collection of selfies) and type in “Imagine me…” followed by the desired setting.

The AI chatbot then generates variations of the user’s profile image, placing them in different environments like a forest or outer space.

While this feature adds a creative twist for WhatsApp users, it remains to be seen how valuable it will be in enhancing engagement. Meta’s ongoing investment in AI aims for the future of computing, but finding practical use cases within social and messaging apps remains a challenge. Big Tech Goes Nuclear: Powering the AI Boom

Tech firms and Silicon Valley billionaires have been investing in nuclear energy, considering it crucial for the green transition.

Now, with the surge in AI demand, nuclear power projects are gaining attention.

While generative AI grows rapidly, nuclear energy advances at a slower pace due to heavy regulation.

Researchers estimate that new AI servers could consume over 85 terawatt hours of electricity annually, more than some small nations’ total energy consumption.

Oklo, a nuclear startup backed by Sam Altman (CEO of OpenAI), aims to power data centers and homes using nuclear energy.

Oklo focuses on fission (splitting atoms) and plans to build small-scale nuclear power plants in Idaho and southern Ohio.

As the U.S. moves toward electric vehicle adoption and decarbonization, the need for energy is substantial.

The intersection of AI and nuclear power presents exciting possibilities for sustainable energy solutions. If you have any other requests or need further assistance, feel free to ask!
